Inglourious Basterds (Quentin Tarantino, 2009)

Inglourious Basterds looks more like a collection of many short films more than any other Quentin Tarantino movie. The opening scene has little to do with the scenes with Basterds in action. The unfulfilled love story between the German soldier and Shoshanna has little to do with the scalps that the Basterds are taking from German soldiers. Inglourious Basterds is filled with antithesis. On one side you have that poetic and slow type of filming that has more to do with the characters and their reactions and on the other you have a violent typical Tarantino movie. Inglourious Basterds is a movie that works better like a collage of things. Like a movie that combines action, drama, war film, exploitation movie, love story and parody. And all these juxtaposed images are working in a way that really is a mystery. How can this film work and not be a total chaos and mess is an example of Quentin's talent. He is able to combine, to marry, almost everything with everything. That's why in this movie the thrill and the excitement is so high. You go from one place to a totally different. From the sadness of the opening scene to the thrill of the Basterds. The Basterds have nothing in common with Shoshanna and her fight, yet they belong to the same movie. This is a movie that inhales everything and lets out a hybrid, a movie that contains a thousands moments which are all unique. This is a movie that works like a collection, like a thing that needs no continuity because it walks the road of experimentation.
Inglourious Basterds is the movie by Quentin that lets out all of his chaotic nature and yet everything in there is made in the most organized way possible. Because in order to create something that has that quality of different chapters you need to be like a surgeon. And Quentin manages to create that epic farce like a myth that is been unravelled in front of our eyes that balances between the absolutely dramatic and the ridiculously cheating. Inglourious Basterds is a movie that can't be categorized, is a movie that walks a lonely road. The road that you take when you gather many glimpses in order to make a real visionary and astonishing view.
