Vampyros Lesbos (Jess Franco, 1971)

If there is one thing that uncle Jess was a true grandmaster to was the atmosphere of the movie. And in Vampyros Lesbos the atmosphere is breathtaking. The scene where the two women are dancing on that stage goes down as one of the most erotic, mystifying, magnetic and beautiful scenes that we have seen in an erotic movie. And the film is full of scenes like this one. Vampyros Lesbos is a movie that works like a psychedelic substance. It goes in your mind and makes a mess in there. After the movie you are unable to walk and talk. Vampyros Lesbos is another example of how great Jess Franco was in making genre horror movies that were practically erotic films.
There is that sense in that film, that perfume that things are not what they seem and behind the façade there are other things, secret things that lurk. And after that there is that dreamy atmosphere where the movie is like you are inside of a dream and you are floating and walking and turning around and there is always something new to observe. Vampyros Lesbos is a movie that bewitches the spectator, it goes inside his mind and turns things upside down. It goes inside his heart and puts a devil in there. The devil of dangerous eroticism, the devil of dangerous sensuality, the devil of dangerous sexuality. Vampyros Lesbos is one of those movies that have only strange effects to the spectator because they are deeply strange and eccentric movies and for that we love them and keep them in a separate box where there is nothing else in there apart from other Jess Franco's movies.
