Only Lovers Left Alive (Jim Jarmusch, 2013)

Who could have thought to make a vampire film like this? Jim Jarmusch's probably best movie ever, is a real triumph of class and pure, undeniable charm. You know the best movies are always the hardest to review. Because there is so much in the movie, there is so much pathos in there that you find it difficult to pass it through words. Only Lovers Left Alive is a real gem of cinema, is a movie that really takes your brain and aesthetic and massages them. Massages them till you feel that all the bad energy is drained from you. The movie has a pace and a tone that is like watching the most beautiful fairy tale and most pleasing nightmare that you can think of. Vampires are so beautiful and charming in that movie that you immediately fall crazy in love with them. Every minutes that passes by it's like a century, every frame and scene that you are watching is another statement, every breath that you take carries inside the world's most precious truth. The lethargic tone of the movie and the dark quality of the frame, make the journey a real feast of joy and pleasure. There are so many things that can be said for this movie that you don't know where to begin with. The actors, the production design, the cinematography, the soundtrack, by the Gods this movie is fucking awesome. You feel every minute of it. You feel the touch of the frame at your body, at your skin. There is that Dionysian flavour in that movie, that ancient quality, that old thing, that wise picture, that dark and beautiful aroma. Only Lovers Left Alive is one of the greatest movies of that decade, there is no doubt about that. And it's not an exaggeration to say that it is maybe the greatest vampire film that the earth has seen. Only Lovers Left Alive is the hottest, most revealing shower that you took in your life. I could speak for days for that movie. I could start from the beginning and analyse the whole film frame by frame. Because there is a feast of frames in that film. Every single one of them shows to the spectator another reality, another possibility, another road to follow. Only Lovers Left Alive is the work of a brilliant director who finally found his most clear and unspoiled voice. A work of art. A masterpiece.
