A Complete Unknown (James Mangold, 2024)

Well yes, A Complete Unknown. I was waiting for that film with big enthusiasm. Always have been a Dylan fan and as I grow older I become an even bigger fan of his music. And yes there is no doubt that we are talking about a production of value, charm, love and some high standards in the aspects of filmmaking. That young actor Timothee Chalamet is pure genius in the work of embodying Dylan, I mean there are times that you think that you are watching the real Bob in front you and generally the movie could have been something particularly great... But it isn't unfortunately.
Of course you understand that we are not talking about a lousy movie, but a movie that misses the heart of the thing that it tries to picture. There is not enough spark in the movie, there is not enough emotion in the movie. I'm not saying that it should be a glorification of Dylan with the usual American - Hollywood crap that they put in biographies, but the movie up to the last 15 minutes is totally flat. We see Dylan, we observe Dylan, but we don't fucking feel Dylan. There is a sense of detachment that the viewer witnesses the whole time that the movie runs. They tried to make it down-to-earth, but they made it boring finally. Exception to that is the finale when Dylan goes electric. That's definitely the best part of the movie, but it's also definitely not enough to hold for a film of 2 hours and 20 minutes. The effort was good, the intention was good hearted, but the result is misfiring in so many aspects that you're left with a great production that took the wrong way after all.
