You see there are some people whose mind works in a total different dimension from the common one. Female Vampire might be characterized as a horror movie but it's mostly an erotic film set in an environment of a typical vampire movie. What Jess Franco did in his career was to take the typical genres of cinema and transform them into highly idiosyncratic movies that had that undeniable signature of his artistic temperament. Female Vampire is a beautiful and eerie journey inside the soul of a lonely, voiceless, troubled and ultra sexual vampire. The film has a slow, lethargic, sleepy rhythm that makes the movie look like some kind of spiritual journey inside the mind and soul of the main character and the continuous nudity and sex scenes make it somehow a Dionysian film that came here to arouse us all and to make us search our own sexuality and pathos. Female Vampire is one of the greatest moments of B movie cinema, an art film, a film that speaks a language that only the "brave" and sensitive understand and hear and finally a moment where all the talent and weirdness of Uncle Jess comes on the screen and it fills the room and our heart with awe and admiration.
Jess Franco made movies that can be fully understood by few, there is this type of deep emotions that you need to feel in order to tune with the movie properly, some have said that this is a total crap and one of his worse movies but I think that they didn't get the esoteric nature of the movie, they didn't get that ultra charm that has to the individual, they didn't get that this is a spiritual trip and thus a movie that is at some moments hard to watch. Female Vampire will stay one of the most incredible moments of European cinema, a moment where the brain finally listened to the soul and they managed a highly alluring trip together that the viewer is lucky to witness. A movie that has a totally personal agenda, it carries a totally personal perfume that comes and fills the room of your soul, a highly sensual film, maybe one of the most sensual movies in the history of cinema and finally Female Vampire is one of those obscure gems, that hide in the dark and they are always ready to steal your heart and soul.
