A film that looks like it came out of the 80s. Something like The Goonies deal with aliens. A film that has one of the greatest slow motion action scenes that you can find in a movie and most of all a film that has the air of fun cinema, an air that it inhales and exhales so easily that it astonishes you. Attack The Block is a film that has the simplest, most ancient idea. Aliens are attacking earth. And that's it. That's the whole film. But it has a way for picturing that. Yes, it has a way that is most thrilling, most entertaining and most suspenseful. It has an air that smells of forgotten times, 80s times, where the fun was so high that you could smell it on the atmosphere. Certainly that type of "light-hearted" movies have extinct, now it's all serious and shit. We have entered a time where the more serious and the more disturbing something is, the bigger the value. And that characteristic has destroyed the spontaneous fun of watching movies. So Attack The Block beyond its undeniable value as a movie, it has another virtue of "waking up" a type of movies that have slept the sleep of the thousand ferries the last years. Attack The Block offers a type of entertainment that is most honest and frank. And most of all Attack The Block is a movie that is not pretending to be something more than a nice refreshment, a great break from our daily troubles, a sweet breeze that we feel in our skin the hot days of Summer.
There is certainty that the people who made it had a very clear view of what they wanted to do. They had in their pockets the flavour of the film. And maybe intellectually Attack The Block might not be the most challenging movie that you can find, but it has a character that is so strong and personal that it wins everything there is to win. It's definitely a science fiction movie with tons of style. It's a science fiction movie that knows how to charm its audience and make them to adore it. And that is more interesting, challenging and important than any intellectual shit that you can have in a movie. Attack The Block is like a child that longs to go out and play with its friends. It doesn't ask questions and it doesn't wait for answers. It knows only to play. And that is a great and pure attribute. Because Attack The Block just wants to play with you... And you are definitely going to let it.
