Scream 4 (Wes Craven, 2011)

That's definitely the only sequel of Scream that has reason to exist. The previous two were really cliché, terribly made and written movies. Scream 4 has some really clever and funny self-satirizing moments and beyond that is the first Scream movie to take the matter a little deeper than an average well written and performed slasher film. There is a clear and straightforward bitter and humorous comment about fame and the media and it's also the first Scream to have so much to do with the internet. Scream 4 is one of those films that take themselves so seriously as to not let you take them seriously and on the other hand includes a comment that suites definitely more serious films than this. And it is this game, this game of seriousness and campiness that finally makes Scream 4 to be one of the greatest slasher films of 2010s. You see the movie satirizes the way that we understand the movie industry, it satirizes the way that we see fame and success. It's been shot like a stupid soap opera TV series that is here to give to the audience a taste of their own stupidity. A taste of their own lack of relating with the media of cinema. Scream 4 also depicts greatly the love of people for slasher movies, there is a festival going on in the movie and we see all those geeks partying whenever a boob comes on screen or the killer appears. Scream 4 tells the truth about how we see movies. It shows in a most comprehensive language the way that we get addicted to movies, the way we turned on by movies, the way that we get excited with movies. It's definitely a film that loves cinema, loves the cliché that's way it's using it so much and it's ridiculing it so much at the same time. Scream 4 is a movie that wakes up the slasher beast and brings  it to a new era, the era of modern technology and endless remakes, reboots and spin-offs. Scream 4 is the cleverest stupid film or the stupidest clever movie. Scream 4 is when cinema is playing with us not letting us see the boundaries between a joke and a murder. Scream 4 is what we see in movies and take with us at our home. It's what we all love about movies.
Wes Craven is putting all his endless talent in that film making a horror movie that is not hear to scare so much, but to make you think what are your values towards horror films. What is the thing that you mostly expect from a horror movie and where are the boundaries of a horror film and a parody. The film looks like a soap opera but is shot in the best way possible. Yes, it's cheesy but is very well performed. And you are having that contradiction in front of you, you are having those mixed emotions about the movie, because it follows some rules only to break them. The whole movie is a rule that is never followed. Whenever there is a cliché on the screen something happens and it is been broken. Whenever there is a murder something creative will happen. Whenever you think you know who the killer is the film makes you look like a fool. Scream 4 is a movie that is constantly fucking with you. It's like one of those sadistic games that some people play with others just to have some fun. Because there is definitely a sadistic-masochistic nature between the movie and the audience. We love to see dead bodies and we are having fun with it, but what happens when the next dead body is us? Scream 4 is a joke, a farce, a prank that is been played in front of our eyes in the most ridiculous and exquisite way possible.
