The Gentlemen (Guy Ritchie, 2019)

We all know that Guy Ritchie is the grandmaster of crime movies with a specific type of wit in them. The Gentlemen is the return of Richie to his favourite genre, a movie that moves like an eel and runs like a fox. The Gentlemen is a film that works like a fast machine producing wit, action, mess and the usual misunderstandings that occur in Ritchie's movies. The movie has that fast pace and that incredible irony, an irony that really levitates the movie to another level. It makes it somehow a walk through a story that you never know if its serious or the biggest laugh in the world. With quirky and funny character The Gentlemen is a film that maybe doesn't astonish you, but it is definitely a lovely ride, a mysterious walk and a cool journey through gangsters, weed dealers and generally people who have that certain kind of something that only Ritchie knows what it is. It has been years since Ritchie dealt with that specific genre of his, a genre that he knows better than a mother knows her child and so we have a movie that walks and talks with air that smells of certainty. The Gentlemen is cool, is funny and it is a movie that you can watch any time of the day you like and you are sure that no matter the mood you are in, the film will guide you and take you to passages and roads that you will definitely find exciting and "exotic". There are very few directors who are recognized by their style in the way that Guy Ritchie is. Guy Ritchie has that specific type of touch to his movies that make them a journey that it is so revealing and so damn penetrating that you feel that you were hit by a bomb after the movie. That amazing and astounding combination of crime and brainy humour make the movie something that you cannot escape really. It comes to you and you are standing there, opposite the screen and you cannot utter one fucking word. Because it hits you. The movie hits you with a fucking blast. The Gentlemen is a movie that maybe doesn't add anything new to Ritchie mythology, but it pays honour and tribute to those qualities and that flavour that made Guy Ritchie what he is today. In few words, The Gentlemen is a super cool movie. A super cool alcoholic beverage of cinema. It's refreshing, it's juicy and it has that incredible characteristic of getting you high as a fucking eagle. The Gentlemen is the return of Guy Ritchie to his form. The Gentlemen is the example where a director returns to his home. And we are doing nothing less but welcome him and tell him that we will always be here waiting for him.
