The Matrix Revolutions (The Wachowskis, 2003)

Now this is a movie that has been given a lot of shit by the critics. They were speaking about the ultimate failure and the absolute worst way to end a very promising trilogy. I on the other hand didn't hate the movie that much. It's understandable that it has it flaws, but mainly these flaws exist because we were so thrilled with the first Matrix. When everything is new like it was in the first Matrix, you get... carried away and you believe that this profound excitement is going to continue and last. That's obviously a mistake and a misjudgement. The Matrix Revolutions is in reality a pretty decent science fiction action movie. Maybe it's a bit noisy at some points, but you can forgive that. What I truly can say about The Matrix Revolutions is that it is and it will stay as a very high quality popcorn movie. And by popcorn I don't mean anything offensive. Revolutions has the spark of the movie that is here to make the audience dance in awe. It's a movie that is here to finally close the trilogy in a way that is both spectacular and highly entertaining. There are a few scenes that you can catch yourself saying that this is a movie that I dig loving. This is a movie that is giving me pleasure for the eye and for the body. I don't know if people who saw the movie where expecting something more deep and substantial, but that's not the case of the movie. And by saying that it's not the case I don't mean that it is an idiotic film. No, on the contrary is a film that respects the spectator giving him an ending that is fulfilling. I wouldn't want it any other way. I would want another first Matrix. What was said was said in the first one and now it's time for more action to take place. Building a fulfilling action environment is not that easy as it looks. Giving to the audience what really captures the feeling of the closing of the trilogy is not an easy task. The machines are coming and Neo is trying to save humanity. Those two elements are the spine of the film. And upon those two elements the whole action set is been build. No, I sincerely believe that The Matrix Revolutions is an honest movie. A movie that might not have the astonishment and the thrill of the first Matrix, but it has the pleasure of the ending, the closing, the finale.
