99 Women (Jess Franco, 1969)

One of the major problems of Jess Franco's cinema was that many times his films were exceptionally tedious. Boring creations that seem to make the spectator lose interest to what was happening on the screen. 99 Women is no exception to this rule. Although there are some interesting moments and some highly erotic nudity in the movie, the biggest part of the film is made for people who yawn. The screenplay is totally generic, meaning that a child could write it and like many women in prison movies the biggest interest lies on the naked women that are parading in the movie. And of course I wouldn't have a problem with the naked women part as long as the movie has something else also to offer. Making a film simply for showing tits and butts is not my idea of cinema. You could easily make a porno film that would be far more interesting that this boring stuff over here.
Jess Franco was a major artist in the B movie industry but he had some serious flaws. His films, although highly distinguishable, lacked some serious stories many times. There are numerous films of his that you really ask yourself what is really the meaning of the movie, when there is no screenplay there at all. 99 Women is from those movies that you forget that you saw them, the next minute. There is nothing in there, just pure waste of time wrapped with nudity. I most certainly prefer the boldness of Russ Meyer's Mondo Topless, a plotless movie maybe, but a totally sincere one and highly humorous also. When you are trying to sell me a non existing story for something that would draw my attention, then I get mad. If the movie was a porno film made in a prison, then I would certainly accept it. A movie only for hardcore fans of Jess Franco or people who haven't seen any women in prison movies and want to experiment with the genre.
