Feeling Minnesota (Steven Baigelman, 1996)

If someone asks me, what's the best film starring Keanu Reeves, I would definitely and without a second thought, answer, Feeling Minnesota. A horribly and criminally underrated and forgotten masterpiece dramedy, that finds Keanu and Cameron Diaz to have a chemistry that many would envy. An exquisitely decadent movie, a trip like no other, a thoroughly satisfying ride and a cinematic moment where you forget any kind of complexes that American cinema might have and you simply enjoy the vulgar beauty of the movie. Feeling Minnesota is one of those rare gems that pop up every now and then and make you love cinema and art all over again. A film that could have been another Dazed And Confused or another Breakfast Club, not because it has similar story, but because it has similar power, similar karma, similar cult potential.  It is a wild, ferocious, untamed, charming and wickedly funny movie, that has a huge heart that is more authentic and real than many cheesy and mellow romantic comedies out there.
To cut a long story short, Feeling Minnesota is from the films that make you proud that they exist. It's from the films that are courageous, brave, unafraid, bold and spicy. It would have been heavenly to see more films like this one, but it's a fact that 80% of the movies that come out are a huge bore, conservative, politically correct and clean-cut. They miss the rawness of life, the truth of life, the dirtiness of life, the realism of life. They are films that want eagerly to make you feel "nice" in a way that finally make you feel sad, bored and annoyed. I still remember the first time that I saw that beauty, I was so taken by the movie, that I saw it two times. I really couldn't get enough of it. There was so much pathos in that story, so much truthful emotion, so much authenticity. I recommend that you give that movie as a gift to the person that has conquer your heart. In that way you are going to show him what you really are and what your heart is made of. Nothing less than pure love.
