You see Batman Returns, like the first Batman, wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for Tim Burton. His visual style, that dark, comic-like, slightly fairy tale and slightly scary movie thing that he takes out in his movies is here the vehicle upon which the whole film is been build. Batman Returns is a story of freaks. Even the villains played by Christopher Walken is in reality a freak. The quality of the characters in this movie is such that you find yourself attached to them regardless the fact that they are villains or heroes. There is something deeper that connects them all and that is their character who cannot fit into the society. Batman Returns is a story of misfits. Batman Returns is a story that you feel like a bedtime story that your grandmother used to say to you before you go to sleep. There is that miraculous fairy tale atmosphere, that atmosphere that can be found in the darkish lighting and the sewers and the penguins and the Christmas tree that makes you feel nostalgic about the movie. There is no doubt that we are talking about a production that has incredible charm and pure cinematic value. From the costume of Catwoman till the make-up of Penguin, Batman Returns is a journey inside the stupendous weirdness of our comic mythology and the images that carry us deep inside the lair of bedtime stories. Batman Returns is one of the greatest superhero films with an amazing cast, superb production design and memorable story. This is a movie that will take you to places, this is a movie that will move you and it is finally a film that takes you by the hand and makes you sit in a magical theatre and watch the most eccentric movie that you could dream of. Batman Returns is a pure child of Tim Burton back from the time when he created films that were coming from the dark side of existence, from that universe where the shadow lurks and the clouds bring the chilly rain.
